“I imagined the Hospital to be a place where the patients would be in such intense pain that they would hardly respond to my call. Was I wrong.”
Muhad Mansoor is a member of the Shaukat Khanum Tiger’s Club –a youth club in Pakistan, which organises awareness-raising activities and allows students to volunteer at Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH). Muhad spent one week on the volunteer program at SKMCH Lahore. At the paediatric ward, where he helped out, he learnt a great deal from the patients he volunteerd with.
“My preconception of volunteering at Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH) had been of working in a dismal environment. I imagined the Hospital to be a place where the patients would be in such intense pain that they would hardly respond to my call. Was I wrong to think that.”
“During these precious days spent at SKMCH, my perspective changed. I met a small child, who was very talkative and happy. It was so uplifting to see his strength; the way he did not allow cancer to dent his courage. I can’t explain how it affected me to see this boy go through chemotherapy sessions with utmost resolve. With his strength he’s giving cancer the toughest fight. I know he can beat cancer. He can do anything.”
