Islamic Geometry Workshop

From October to November 2022, join us online for an Islamic Geometry workshop with Samira Mian.

Enter a world of infinite beauty, as we take our first, baby steps in learning Islamic Geometric Art. Following the success of our Islamic Geometry workshop last year, IKCA has teamed up with Samira Mian again to bring you six classes throughout October and November. You’ll be learning a new skill, expressing yourself creatively, and producing beautiful patterns to adorn your home. At just £10 per class (or £50 when you book all six in one go), and from the comfort of your home, this is an event you cannot miss.

Islamic Geometry is a discipline which combines mathematical intelligence with breathtaking artistry, spanning the history of many Eastern cultures. Islamic Geometric patterns have adorned palaces, madrassas and mosques, and illuminated Manuscripts from Spain across to China since the 8th century.

Sign up today and mark those dates in your diary for some self-development and you time. Proceeds from lesson fees will go towards providing free treatment to patients at Shaukat Khanum Hospital. So you’ll be learning Islamic geometric art while supporting cancer patients in Pakistan.

 About the Workshop

This course is aimed at beginners with an interest in the geometric patterns they’ve seen in the Islamic world and beyond. Many people haven’t used a compass since their school days, if that’s you, you’re about to rediscover all the potential it holds!

During the workshop, we’ll be drawing a single unit of a repeating pattern to warm up and familiarise ourselves with the tools and the pattern. We’ll then draw it repeated four times, outline in pen and then colour and embellish with colouring/watercolour pencils.

Once you have signed up, a PDF of the step-by-step process will be emailed to you along with confirmation details of the event and your attendance.

Materials you’ll need to get before the workshop:

  • A4 plain paper x 4
  • A compass
  • A sharp pencil
  • A ruler
  • Fineliner pens
  • Sharpener
  • Eraser
  • Colouring pens & pencils

Many of these things can be found in our homes but if you wish to buy from Samira’s recommendations, please see her source list of equipment here:
