The IKCA Pakistan Challenge Starts Now

How far would you go to save a life?

In 2019, volunteers from around the world embarked on an adventure through Gilgit-Baltistan, for IKCA’s first ever Pakistan trekking challenge. Their mission: to bring Imran Khan’s Cancer Appeal to the top of Rush Peak, and raise funds that can enable the country’s poorest to receive free treatment at Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital.

The 10-day trip saw them blazing a trail through a region of breath-taking beauty, as they made their way to their final destination. Here’s a peek at some of the locations on their route:

Fairy Meadows: Locally known as Joot, Fairy Meadows is a grassland near the base of Nanga Parbat Mountain, at an altitude of 3250 metres above sea level. Fairy Meadows was named thus by German trekkers who fell in love with its enchanting, natural beauty.

Nanga Parbat Base Camp: Measuring at 26,660 ft, Nanga Parbat is the ninth highest peak in the world. It forms the Westernmost anchor of the Himalayan Range, just south of the Indus River, in the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan. IKCA challengers will be climbing to the base camp of Nanga Parbat, at an altitude of 3967 metres.

Rush Lake: A high altitude lake, at 4760 metres, Rush Lake is located in the Nagar Valley below Rush Peak. It is the sight of breath taking vistas all around.

Rush Peak: Measuring at 5098 metres above sea level, Rush peak is a mountain in the Karakoram Mountain Range of Central Asia, located in the Gilgit district of Northern Pakistan. It has a unique vantage point which affords spectacular views of nearby mountains Golden Peak, K2 and Meer Peak.

To prepare for this journey of a life time and reach their fundraising target, all of our challengers applied themselves to rigorous fitness programmes. Some went further and participated in other challenges. These were as tough as they were often outlandish, ranging from running 1000 kilometre in the UK, to braving the world’s longest zip-line in Ras Al-Khaima, UAE.

As our intrepid adventurers prepared to go the distance to save lives, we prepared our final push to raise funds in support of their efforts. Will you join us in our next challenge? Follow Imran Khan Cancer Appeal on Facebook to keep up to date on this and other events. Share this post with your friends and family to get the word out about the mission. We prayed that Allah (swt) gave our challengers stamina, strength and success on their journey and in their endeavour to help others. Ladies and Gentlemen, we give you Team IKCA for the Pakistan Trekking Challenge:
