Give Life a Chance this Ramadan

For the 29 years that we’ve been working, your Zakat has given a chance at life to thousands of patients. Here are some of their stories.

Zakat is a pillar of our faith so powerful that with it we changed the face of cancer care in Pakistan. The Zakat you give every Ramadan enables us to provide patients, who cannot afford the high cost of cancer treatment, a fair chance at life.

Meet Muhammad Ali Hamza

When he was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer, he was told he only had months to live. The cancer had spread through his intestines and even to his liver. “Go to Shaukat Khanum Hospital,” his doctor said, “because for cancer this advanced, even overseas they won’t treat you.”

Ali’s surgery was a record for our doctors at Shaukat Khanum Hospital. It was 16 hours long. “I still remember when the surgery team gave me a glimmer of hope,” says Ali. “That meant everything to me – it was my only chance at life.”

Now Ali is well. He recently completed his MBA and has started a new job. You can watch his message in this video.

Meet Hira

When Hira complained of tummy pains in the mornings her parents thought she was trying to avoid going to school. But not long after that, she became very unwell and was eventually diagnosed with Kidney Cancer.

Hira’s treatment plan at Shaukat Khanum Hospital included chemotherapy, followed by surgical removal of the tumour, and then more chemotherapy to destroy any remaining cancer cells.

“When we found out that Hira had cancer,” says Hira’s dad, “I felt helpless because as a rickshaw driver, I could not afford such expensive treatment. At Shaukat Khanum Hospital, we found out that her cancer was treatable because of the Zakat that supporters give.

“My daughter received the best possible care completely free of charge. We are grateful beyond words to all the people who gave Hira a second chance at life.

Hira has completed her treatment now and is back at school.

The Zakat you give this Ramadan will literally mean a chance at life for patients at Shaukat Khanum Hospitals. Thank you for entrusting us to fulfil your obligation of Zakat for nearly three decades.
