SKMCH Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony: July 2015

One in 12 patients diagnosed with cancer at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) is a child.

While undergoing active treatment, most of our child patients who go to school are forced to discontinue their studies. For those who never went to school to begin with, education is just another far-off luxury.

At SKMCH, we have play therapists for our child patients. We also run a Hospital Schooling Program. This provides them with the opportunity to carry on learning through treatment, or in some cases, start learning for the first time. The program does wonders for their morale, and gives them the encouragement to pursue their studies after recovery.

For several months now, many of our child patients have been taking a kindergarten course while receiving treatment in hospital. This Ramadan, SKMCH staff held a graduation ceremony for all the children who completed it. We wanted to celebrate their efforts, their achievements and their strength of spirit despite all the odds.
