Reaching Out to the Maldives

As of 2017, Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH) will be supporting the establishment of cancer diagnostic and treatment facilities in the Maldives. We’ll be training Maldivian doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals in the treatment and care of cancer patients. Physicians with basic postgraduate medical qualifications in Internal Medicine will attend oncology training at SKMCH for one year. Tuition fees of all Maldivian students at SKMCH will be waived for two years.

SKMCH will also provide training and expertise to enable the Maldives Ministry of health to establish a national cancer registry with the Health Protection Agency. Pathology samples and radiology images obtained in the treatment of cancer patients in the Maldives will be sent to SKMCH for reporting.
