Million Dollar Smiles

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) runs the Shaukat Khanum Tigers Club in Pakistan. It’s a club for students and young people who work to fundraise for SKMCH and raise awareness of cancer in Pakistan. The club also organizes awareness-raising activities and allows students to volunteer at the hospital.

Arfa Abbas is a member of the Shaukat Khanum Tigers Club. This month she got to volunteer at the hospital in Lahore, and spend time with some of our cancer patients. When we asked her about the experience, she had this to say:

“During my volunteer work at the hospital, and the valuable time I spent with child patients, I realized how easy it was for my words to bring smiles to their faces. I made friends with a little girl named Maryam. Every day, she used to wait for me to visit. And every time I walked into her room she’d give me a million dollar smile. It was the highlight of every day.”

At Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA) and SKMCH, we’re blessed with many job perks. One of them is the million dollar smiles we encounter every day. As well as the satisfaction of knowing that we had a part in bringing those smiles about. For us, it’s the indication of a job well done –because hope and high morale are vital for recovery. With the support we receive from donors and volunteers, like Arfa, we’ve been keeping the morale high. With your help, we can keep the hope alive.
