At Ramadan, Take Benefit of Five Before Five

In a beautiful Hadith referenced to Hakim, The Prophet () is report to have  said, ‘Take benefit of five before five…’ Read about them below and download the Hadith infographic. Share it with you friends and family on social media, to help spread the wisdom this Ramadan.

Your youth before your old age;

If you are young, then you’re full of energy. Bursting at the seams to make a positive difference in the world. Youth is a blessing from Allah (swt). Put it to use in a way that will please Him. Act now to be beneficial to others. Use your means to lift your needy brothers and sisters, and support those who need a shoulder to lean on. There will come a time, when you too will be in need of the same.

Your health before your sickness;

Give thanks for your health before sickness by applying yourself to help those who are sick. Treasure your good health by taking better care of yourself. Remember, your body is a trust from Allah (swt) and has a right over you. Take good care of it through exercise, healthy eating and avoiding damaging habits like smoking. Ramadan is the perfect time to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and to gain the prayers of the sick.

Your wealth before your poverty;

The wealth you have is a trust from Allah (swt). The best way to show gratitude for it is to give from it to those in need. Giving Zakat is obligatory on every Muslim. It is the right of the poor, and a way to purify and preserve your wealth. Giving Sadaqah is loved by Allah (swt), and is believed to increase sustenance. But its rewards in the hereafter are even greater. The Holy Month is one of the best times to give charity, so if you can afford to, Give Today.

Your free-time before your preoccupation;

Free time is a blessing we all seem to have very little of today. When we get some, it seems to fly away while we’re playing candy-crush on our phones, binging on our favorite TV series, or showing the world what we had for lunch on Facebook or Instagram. This Ramadan, put your phone away and switch off the TV. Do the things you normally have no time for: read Qur’an and do additional worship; visit the sick and elderly or make time for family; give your time to those in need by volunteering for a charity.

Find Out how you can donate your free time to helping others through volunteering for IKCA.

And your life before your death.

Everyone dies. It is the one inescapable fact we all seem to think about least. Yet reflecting on death helps us value our lives more. It makes us less selfish, less inhibited, more generous, and more cheerful, even about the small things that make life beautiful. At IKCA and Shaukat Khanum Hospital, we see this first-hand every day, with the cancer patients we treat. As they face death, they are grateful for every moment they are alive to praise Allah (swt) and prepare for the life to come. This Ramadan, join us to think about death more, and make the best of the life you have.
