First Snowdon, now Scafell Pike

Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA) boasts some of the most colorful volunteers on the cancer charity scene. We’re talking about the Stani Army, who climbed mount Snowdon this past April, and recently conquered Scafell Pike in May. What sets them apart from most charity challenge trekkers, is that they do it in full fancy dress.

‘Many people stopped to take pictures with us,’ said one of our climbers, IKCA’s own Ikhlaq Ahmad. ‘A lady who’d never heard of IKCA before made a small contribution after noticing such valour from our group!’

The Stani Army was set up by a group of diehard Pakistan cricket fans. During the Scafell Pike trek, their ranks comprised of: Mr. Pakistan, Batman, Sheikh of Pakistan, Groom of Pakistan, and Robin. Climbing with them were the Kramblers (Kashmiri Rablers), who are a bunch no less boisterous. At the head of the Kramblers came our youngest superhero, 10 year-old Zain Parvez. Then there was Tariq Parvez, Faiz Rashid, Sobia Dayala, Asif Mahmood, Farida Abdullah, M Gullfraz, Javed Siddique, Hafiz Abdul Qayum, Jamal Tariq, Rahi Majid, Fida Baig, Furiha Chaudry, Samaira Zaib, Hina Jawaid and Ikhlaq Ahmad.

Some of our challengers travelled from the furthest corners of the country for the challenge, adding an extra day’s journey to their adventure. Together, the 20-man group of determined volunteers pushed on to the peak. Though the weather was fair throughout the day, temperatures dropped drastically once they reached the summit. The severe cold made it impossible to hang around longer then 5 minutes. The conquering IKCA volunteers huddled together for a quick photo of their achievement and then dashed back down. They found the downward journey more difficult than the climb, with rocky and slippery terrain all around. But by 4.30pm, every last man, woman and child had made it back safely.

A big ‘thank you!’ goes out to the Stani Army, the Kramblers and all of our other Scafell Pike volunteers. They’ve not only completed an arduous challenge, but have also raised funds and awareness, which are vital to our fight against cancer.

If you’d like to donate towards their efforts, and the work we do in Pakistan, you still can. Please spare what you are able at: https://www.justgiving.com/IKCA/
