Faraz UlHaq runs 10K for IKCA

Faraz UlHaq is your average Civil Engineer from Kettering, and a proud father of two. But just last week he did something life changing.

Faraz ran 10k at the Milton Keynes Festival of Running on the 3rd of March, completing his run in 1 hour and 2 minutes. In the process he raised over £1800 towards providing free treatment for poor cancer patients in Pakistan. We caught up with Faraz to find out more about his run.

When fundraising, why did you choose IKCA?

Whenever it comes to true social work or charity, I know no better organisation than Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Pakistan. You guys are doing a great job.

Have you done a 10k run before?

No, this was my first ever 10K run, and I’d like to continue doing similar in the future.

Do you run regularly?

I am a cricketer and not runner. In fact, running never fascinated me before.

How much did you have train for this challenge?

I have been training since October last year for the cricket season. While I was
at it, I thought it would be good to book an event and run for my hero Imran
Khan’s great cause. Now that I’ve completed the 10K run, a half marathon is
my next target. Again, there is only one name I have in mind, Imran Khan.

Were there any moments during the run when you felt you couldn’t go on much
longer, and what gave you the motivation to keep going?

I enjoyed every bit of the run, and it never once crossed my mind that I could not complete it. However, I can say that support from my friends, and their donations to the cause definitely kept me going. But above all, I had my lovely wife, my son and daughter waiting for me at the finish line. That was the most important thing.
