11 year-old Ibrahim Climbs Scafell Pike for Cancer Care

11 year-old Ibrahim took on the Scafell Pike challenge in aid of cancer patients in Pakistan. He’s one of our youngest volunteers to have done so.

Scafell_Pike4Ibrahim Darr from Wimbledon lost his grandmother to cancer six years ago. He was only 5 years-old then, but he still misses her dearly. Ibrahim may be little but he’s old enough to understand how difficult and costly it is to treat cancer. He knows that his grandmother was fortunate enough to receive cancer care here in the UK, where we have a national health service. He also knows that in Pakistan, where there is no national health service, receiving cancer care is reserved only to those who can afford it.

“I climbed Scafell Pike, which is the highest mountain in England, for Imran Khan Cancer Appeal, and for those people who can’t afford cancer treatment in Pakistan.” The Rutlish Secondary School student, signed up for the Scafell Pike challenge, because he wanted to do something for poor cancer patients whose treatment depends on our support.

“It was an incredible experience going up and down Scafell Pike. I really enjoyed going up the ‘Mickeldore’ route because it had slippery stones called ‘scree’ and it was steep and fun. When I got to the top I felt that I was ‘at the top of the world’ and it was very clear and sunny, you could see everything around.”

Ibrahim’s initial fundraising target was a modest £300 –but with so many donors moved by this little hero’s efforts, that sum was doubled and then tripled in no time. “I felt happy and excited when I reached the top,” he said, “and for all the money raised and all those people who sponsored me. Thank you for sponsoring me and raising money for cancer treatment.”

Ibrahim climbed Scafell Pike with his father last weekend and then spent a couple of days camping at the base of the mountain. With the completion of his challenge he has raised a total of £2000 for IKCA. But the donations and good will wishes are still rolling in at Ibrahim’s JustGiving Page.

If you’d like to show your support of Ibrahim’s efforts and give hope to cancer patients at Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH), please donate today through Ibrahim’s JustGiving Page. If you’re interested in taking part in a challenge on behalf of IKCA, Sign Up today for our 3PC coming up in 2017.
