Special Moments at Shaukat Khanum
“Working at Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital as a volunteer helped me get a closer look at life. I saw the roughness, difficulties and tragedies that creep unseen upon us. But yet I saw hope in the eyes of those who were in this battlefield until now. Walking through the doors of the Gift Shop at the Hospital and seeing Abuzar (a patient) in good health, contented my heart every day. I had met this little angle on my first day to work and I could perceive that he was special. Skipping work at ‘Radiation Department’ just to meet him convinced me of the special bond that I had begun to share with him. Days passed, it was fun to have him around. Gladly he felt the same in my company and made me a special card saying he had learnt to make it in SWAT.
On my fifth day at work he did not show up. I waited all day and then the next and so on till my last day but he did not come. The Gift Shop seemed lifeless without him and I began to wonder what had become of him. Was he unwell I wondered? Then I heard that he was getting better and did not need to come here anymore. I missed him but the news of his recovery was so comforting that I cannot express in words. I thanked Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital for gifting me with such precious moments of my life, which I will never be able to forget.”
