An Interview with Porter Ahmed Khan
Ahmad Khan: “My mother taught me this. Even if someone is thinking of doing wrong, reminding them they are good might just change their heart. She believed every person is born good”.
After 31 years of service, Ahmad Khan has completed his final day at Shaukat Khanum Lahore. We spoke to him about his journey, the values that guided his work, and his reflections on three decades of service.
How did your journey at Shaukat Khanum begin?
“I joined Shaukat Khanum Lahore as a driver in 1995. In 1999, I had a stroke, which changed the direction of my life”.
How did that period affect you? Were you concerned about your future?
“Shaukat Khanum stood by me during that time. I was supported and given opportunities to continue working in different roles”.
What role did you go on to hold after that?
“I spent more than two decades working as a porter in the pathology laboratory”.
Many colleagues remember a phrase you often used. What does it mean to you?
“I often said, “Allah ke hukum se sab achay hain”, which means everyone is good, by God’s will.
“My mother taught me this. She believed every person is born good. Even if someone is thinking of doing wrong, reminding them they are good can sometimes change their heart”.
What are you looking forward to in this next chapter?
“I’m a grandfather now, and look forward to spending more time with my family”.
