Lahore Clinical Tower

The rising incidence of cancer around the world is also affecting Pakistan’s poorest.

Despite our achievements in the fight against cancer, we’re still only able to treat a fraction of the patients who come to Shaukat Khanum Hospital every year. To increase our intake and boost our patient capacity, we’re building the Lahore clinical Tower. Can you help?

Donate to the Lahore Clinical Tower

Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH) was established in Lahore in 1994. As a comprehensive care facility dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, it was a first in Pakistan. For over two decades, we’ve offered comprehensive cancer care free of charge in a hospital which houses all the specialised diagnostic and therapeutic facilities under a single roof.

Did you know…

That SKMCH conducted the first ever bone marrow transplant in Lahore in 2006. The £14,000 procedure was carried out at no charge to the patient and was made possible through the generous support of an anonymous donor.

SKMCH was the first hospital in Pakistan to procure a PET CT scan in 2007. A Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computerised Tomography (CT) scan is an imaging technique. It helps provide information about the activity of cancer cells. Previously, patients in Pakistan had to go abroad to undergo this test.
Together we’ve changed the face of cancer in Pakistan. Please help us continue to give hope in the fight against cancer.

Sponsor the Karachi Hospital

This is Karachi, where we’re building Pakistan’s third Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital.

Free cancer care in Pakistan is possible. We’ve seen it in action over two decades across two cancer hospitals. Now we’re bringing free cancer care to Karachi, but we need your help.

We’re asking you to give sadaqah jariya towards the Karachi hospital. Fund equipment, sponsor a room, or become a founding donor. Every donation will be honoured with a dedication plaque that bears the donor’s name. Every brick and piece of equipment donated, will help save lives for years to come.

Why Karachi?

Karachi is the capital of the Sindh province, and Pakistan’s largest, most populated city. Plagued by extreme poverty, up to 40% of the population here live on less than 80 pence a day. While 75% of the population across rural Sindh, live in abject destitution. In a region where crime is high, life is cheap, and parents abandoning their children out of desperation is a common feature of life, the sick have little hope of survival.

Why Another Hospital?

SKMCH has been in Karachi since 2010, when we established the Karachi Diagnostics Centre and Clinic. The centre provides radiology services including digital X-Ray and Mammography; Pharmacy services; Oncology services including a consultation clinic and a chemotherapy bay. With our capacity limited, SKMCH staff in Karachi have been hard pressed to treat the rising number of poor cancer patients in this region. But a third Shaukat Khanum Hospital will change that.

The Karachi hospital will be built at a cost of £35 million. It will be a ray of hope for poor cancer patients in the region, who can neither afford treatment nor the cost of traveling to Lahore to receive medical.

Message by Dr. Asim Yusuf (Chief Medical Officer, SKMCH&RC) at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Shaukat Khanum Hospital Karachi.

Sponsor a Cancer Patient

Being diagnosed with cancer can seem like the end of the world to anyone. For a person who lacks the means to afford treatment, it really can be.

At Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA), we believe that every cancer patient deserves an equal chance at life. With your help we can restore hope to someone who has the odds stacked against them. By sponsoring the full or partial treatment of a patient, you will be ensuring he/she receives the best care available in Pakistan. By taking on the expense of treatment, you’ll be giving your sponsored patient the hope and morale he/she needs to recover.

The cost of treatment will vary from one patient to another. It will depend on the type of cancer a patient has and the type of treatment required. Approximately, the cost of treatment can range from £3,440 (for a Germ Cell Tumour) to £13,328 (for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia). Your Donation is a Ray of Hope for the Poor

Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH) cares for thousands of patients who rely on your support. In 2015 we were able to provide free cancer treatment to 75% of our patients through donor funds and Zakat donations. We covered all diagnostic and therapeutic hospital fees, ranging from the cost of radiation and chemotherapy services, to surgical theatre and medication fees.

How You are Helping

13606964_10153763272282029_416275146358826307_n5 year-old Huzaifa is just one of many children admitted to SKMCH with cancer. He is one of many children whose parents were faced with a devastation twofold when he was diagnosed: the potentially deadly disease their child is suffering from; and the reality that they cannot afford the care their child needs. But with your help, and the generous support of friends and family, we’ve started treating Huzaifa.

Give Towards Cancer Treatment

Sponsor Hospital Equipment

To continue fighting cancer, we need Hospital Equipment, which can help us diagnose, treat and support cancer patients through their battle with cancer. Can you help us?

Did you know that…

Over 1,031 Fluoroscopy procedures are performed in a single year at SKMCH Lahore. That’s 1,031 patients benefitting from a single machine.

On average, SKMCH Peshawar is performing 10 CT scans per day (though this figure is set to increase.) That’s over 3,120 patients a year, receiving a potentially life-saving diagnosis through a single machine.

An MRI machine has a very long lifespan, providing its detector module is replaced every 5 years. It can go on to benefit thousands of patients for many years to come.

Watch the video to find out how every little donated towards Hospital Equipment, will go a long way in our ongoing fight against cancer.

Donate towards Hospital Equipment

Cancer care is costly and providing free cancer treatment is no easy feat. To meet demands we need Hospital Equipment at Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH) in Lahore and Peshawar.

At Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA), we believe in providing cancer care for patients, irrespective of whether they can afford it or not. But, free treatment shouldn’t mean poor service. Part of our promise is to ensure our Hospital stays current with medical and technological advances in cancer treatment.

The equipment we need ranges from disposable items used every day to high-end appliances such as MRI machines. Annually we spend £19 million treating cancer patients. Without your support, this would not be possible.

Please help our work by donating towards essential equipment and resources. Every pound spent towards a microscope or MRI machine can mean better chances of recovery due to early diagnosis. Every little bit will go a long way.

Below is a list of items we need your help to purchase.

Feed a Cancer Patient

We all know the importance of a healthy, balanced diet. But, when you’re ill it’s even more important to make sure that you’re getting the nutrients and vitamins you need to get better.

For patients diagnosed with cancer, it’s absolutely vital that they are eating well. But, each patient is different. Some are able to eat solids, others will require soft foods, and in some cases, tube feeding is the only option. Cancer and its treatments can also cause patients to suffer from vomiting, severe weight loss, and loss of appetite. These prevent a patient from maintaining a healthy weight.

Feed 100 Patients 3 Meals for one day with £350 Feed 1 Patient 3 Meals for a month with £105 Feed 10 patients 3 Meals for one day with £35

At Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH), we strive to ensure that every cancer patient has his/her own dietary plan which provides their specific nutritional requirements. By eating well, they are able to build up the strength and energy they need to fight cancer. With your help, we can keep our patients on the correct cancer diet and ensure that every meal is another step towards recovery from cancer.

A good meal is something many of us can take for granted. But for poor cancer patients in Pakistan, it’s not something that is easy to come by. Please sponsor a meal or two and help us to carry on feeding our patients well.

Equip Shaukat Khanum Peshawar

We need Hospital Equipment, which can help us diagnose, treat and support cancer patients through their battle with cancer. Will you help us?

Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH) in Peshawar has offered a life-line throughout the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. When we started admitting our first patients in December 2015, the hospital was only partially completed. Yet we were still able to offer chemotherapy from the outset at our 6 bed chemotherapy bay. Also functioning were the Outpatient clinics, Inpatient rooms, an Intensive Care Unit, and an Emergency Assessment Room. By April 2016, with the ongoing support of generous donors, we were able to offer CT scans, MRI scans and Fluoroscopy.

In 2017, we completed the final phase of the Peshawar Project, but there is so much that our hospital still needs. Ca you help?

The opening of SKMCH Peshawar has increased our patient intake by 50%. To cope with the rising numbers, we need your support to speed up the process of equipping the hospital. Will you help us invest in equipment that saves people from cancer?

Sponsor a Project

According to estimates, there are 150,000 – 200,000 new cases of cancer in Pakistan every year. 1 in 5 of every patient diagnosed for cancer is a child.

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) and its staff are under pressure to meet growing needs. In response, Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA) has launched expansion projects. Our Lahore project aims to increase the capacity of our existing hospital in Lahore. Our projects in Peshwar and Karachi are aimed at building new hospitals to meet growing demand in those regions. These will start off small and function principally as chemotherapy delivery units. They will have a set of minimal but essential associated ancillary facilities. In the long-term, each facility will have the potential to be scaled up to a full cancer hospital.

IKCA helps run the only cancer hospital in Pakistan, which provides free cancer treatment to patients who can’t afford it. SKMCH is the only specialized cancer centre in the region, with all the relevant diagnostic and therapeutic facilities under one roof. However, at our current capacity, we are only able to treat a fraction of Pakistan’s annual cancer demographic.

Our work is vital to saving lives. With your help we can save more.

For more details on sponsoring our expansion projects, please see our price tables below. Or contact us to find out more about sponsoring a particular section of one of our projects.
