Give Sadaqah Jariyah

Sadaqah Jariyah, meaning ongoing charity, is a gift that benefits others even after the giver has passed away. Giving Sadaqah Jariyah allows one to reap the blessings of their charitable act in this life and the hereafter, as long as others continue to benefit from it. When you give Sadaqah Jariyah to Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA), it builds hospitals for the poor and allows us to purchase essential medical equipment. It helps us diagnose, treat and support cancer patients for years and years to come.

We need your Sadaqah, just as much as we need your Zakat. Here is why:

Sadaqah Vs. Zakat

Your Zakat allows us to provide free treatment to 75% of our patients at Shaukat Khanum Hospital, every year. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to save lives. But to treat cancer patients we need medical equipment, hospital wards, doctors and medicine. These are things we cannot purchase with Zakat.

Transparency and Shariah Compliance:

At IKCA, we are very particular about the disbursement of the Zakat funds you entrust to us. Thats why the Zakat we receive is utilized exclusively for providing direct patient care to poor patients. For every other expense, we use Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah.

Give Sadaqah Jariyah towards our Karachi Hospital

In December 2015, your Sadaqah enabled us to give new hope to patients in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, with Pakistan’s second cancer hospital. Though only partially equipped, Shaukat Khanum Hospital (SKMCH) Peshawar started offering chemotherapy from the outset. Since then, our six-bed chemo bay has seen a turnover of 18-20 patients per day, six days a week. We now need your support to bring hope to Karachi. Find Out More

How does Giving Sadaqah benefit you

Why give Sadaqah when you already give Zakat? This is a good question. Both Sadaqah and Zakat are forms of charity in Islam, but they are not interchangeable. Many of us forget that Zakat is a form of worship. It is in fact obligatory on every able Muslim, and not voluntary charity.

In Islam, voluntary charity is Sadaqah -meaning ‘charity’. The term stems from the Arabic root word ‘sidq’, meaning ‘sincerity’. So giving Sadaqah is considered a sign of sincere faith. Among its liberal rewards are Baraka -the increasing of one’s wealth and health.

And treat your sick by giving charity… [Al-Bayhaqi, 3/282]

IKCA uses the Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah you give to save lives. Find Out More about the Islamic tradition of Sadaqah and its beautiful benefits to the giver.

Hadith about Sadaqah Jariyah

The virtues and blessings of giving for the Sake of Allah are plentiful. Many of these are mentioned in the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Here are some Hadith that highlight better the beauty and meaning of Sadaqah Jariyah and Sadaqah:

The Prophet ﷺ said: When a man dies, his good deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which [he has passed on and] is beneficial; or a virtuous descendant who prays for him. –Muslim

According to reliable Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ  said: Good works protect from evil fates; charity in secret extinguishes the wrath of the Lord; maintaining family ties increases life span; and every good deed is charity.  -Al-Mu’jam al-Awsaṭ 6252

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: Charity does not, in any way, decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people). -Muslim

According to the Hadith, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Guard yourselves against the Fire [of Hell] even if it be only with half a date-fruit (given in charity); and if you cannot afford even that, you should at least say a good word.” -Muslim
