1. WHICH ANIMALS ARE SUITABLE FOR QURBANI?

For Qurbani, animals such as sheep, goats, cows, camels, oxen and buffalo, commonly referred to as the ‘Beast of cattle’, are suitable for sacrifice.

2. IS IT NECESSARY TO VERIFY THE ANIMAL’S AGE?

Yes, it is. To be eligible for Qurbani selection, an animal must have reached adulthood. For sheep, this is between six to 12 months, for goats one year, and for cows two years.

3. SHOULD I VERIFY THE ANIMAL’S HEALTH?

Again, yes. Before making a purchase for Qurbani sacrifice, it’s important to make sure the animal is healthy. At Imran Khan Cancer Appeal we personally visit the farms we work with and look for the following signs:

  • Any visible eye defects, including blindness or the loss of one-third of eyesight.
  • Sickness or wounds that affect the animal’s health.
  • Lameness.
  • Undernourishment to the point where you wouldn’t usually consider buying the animal.

4. IS THERE A TIME LIMIT ON QURBANI?

Qurbani is time sensitive. To be valid, it must be performed within four days of the Eid prayer on the first day of Eid ul-Adha and before sunset on the 13th day of Dhul Hijjah, which is the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar.

To guarantee your order, please book as early as possible before the 8th day of Dhul Hijjah (two days before Eid ul-Adha).

Simply book online today or contact us at +44 (0)1274 424 444 during office hours and provide us with the names of those on whose behalf the sacrifice will be carried out.

5. SHOULD I AVOID CHEAP SLAUGHTERHOUSES?

Qurbani is a meaningful act of piety and the animal offered for sacrifice must be treated humanely and ethically in line with the Shari’ah ruling on halal.

It is important to avoid cheap slaughterhouses with little to no supervision, as they are often places of distress for animals.

If you’re still in the process of shopping around and looking for the best option, we’re here to help! With years of experience working with reputable farms and abattoirs, we’ve put together a Qurbani pricing checklist to help you make the right choice.

6. IS QURBANI MANDATORY?

Qurbani is considered wajib (necessary) or sunnah mu’akkadah (highly recommended) for Muslims who are of sound mind, have reached the age of puberty, and have a level of wealth that meets or exceeds the Nisab value.

Unsure if your wealth qualifies? Our free Zakat guide can provide more information on the Nisab value – feel free to take a look!

7. WHAT IF I CAN’T AFFORD MUCH?

For your Qurbani to be accepted, it must be offered by a Muslim in the name of Allah (SWT) with a sincere and pure intention. If you are facing financial worries this year and are unable to purchase a more expensive animal, that is understandable.

However, if you can afford to spend more, it is important to remember that being miserly is never acceptable. And Allah (SWT) knows our intentions best.
